If you have symptoms of baby blues, your mood may jump quickly from feeling proud of becoming a new mom to feeling upset because you’re having difficulty bonding with your baby.

Symptoms of postpartum depression are more serious than baby blues. Although in both you may feel downcast, in postpartum depression, you start losing your appetite and start having trouble sleeping at night. Panic attacks can be present as a symptom of PPD. Because of your emotional imbalance and despair, taking care of your newborn can become a difficult task.

Dealing with postpartum depression may cause your partner to start having symptoms of PPD, and it can also affect your child’s development, physically and emotionally.
